Healed in a Snap!

“The level of hurt is proportional to the level intimacy with that person. ”

We had heard horror stories of kids popping bones out of socket, but never thought it would it happen to us. Last night Aiyana went through the toughest pain she has ever experienced. Boy did it hurt me see her like that. I wish I could hold her, but couldn’t. I wish I could rewind time and be on watch before she fell. I wish I could know what to do to make it stop.

Right after knowing that she couldn’t move her arm without screaming, we went to her pediatrician who immediately sent us to the hospital to get x-rays. We kept her still, praying, hoping, hurting with her and waiting for the results to come back. When the results came in the doctor declared nothing was broken, but had her elbow out of socket. In less than 5 minutes after just meeting this ER Doctor, he popped Aiyana’s elbow right into place. 10 seconds after a loud cry and some excruciating pain, she was like new. WOW!!!  Aiyana said, “every time have I go to the hospital, I want to go there, cause they give me an ice pop!”  Really, like nothing had happened. She was restored, fixed, comforted, healed.

How many of us in our hurt and misdirection miss the re-alignment we need from God? Things are popped out of socket and we walk around in pain not knowing that God wants to help us.  He’ll give us an X-ray, he wants us to know what’s up? And if we trust and listen, He can and will heal any hurt, even brokenness, in just a snap. Our God is willing and He is able.

I want to be the way I was created to be and I want to help others and direct them to The Healer. All we need to do is come to Him. He can do it in a snap! If we believe and put ourselves fully in dependence and surrender in His hands, He can do the miraculous.

I am so thankful that Aiyana is back to perfect :) . Her pain is gone. Though the Doctor must have felt like god when Aiyana smiled, there is only one true God. Imagine how much He cares and how He feels every time He heals one more.

Thank you God for this revelation and this trust you are building in me. Help me be faithful and obedient to you. I trust you Jesus. Thank you Jesus! Thank you Father for feeling my pain, for loving me and healing me. Keep taking care of my family, they are yours!

Thankful

I am thankful for God’s faithfulness! I am thankful for a loving wife who not only supports me but loves God so much. I say this because 11 years ago Vanessa agreed to marry me, not in her hometown or close to HER family, but in Mexico where she saw that maybe one day we’d be working on mission with the Hispanic culture. Imagine giving up a dream wedding to be married in a foreign country. She is amazing!

Now I see God’s plan coming all together. San Antonio is surrounded by people who know and appreciate the Hispanic culture. For me it was home, for Vanessa it became home right away!

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithfulness endures forever. Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out!” Ps 107:1-2

I give thanks to the Lord for his goodness and faithfulness! I know He is doing a work in me. He is growing a deeper passion for His own heart and His people. This is a wonderful season for us to join and  journey with Gateway Church, as they journey in growing deeper and learning to become unselfish friends. The next 2 years are full of hope, growth and favor!  This journey will equip us to truly love the Lord and be unselfish friends.  Check out: H300

I never imagine of being in such a great place, with a great church, with great leaders and with great friends. All of which we need in order to be on mission. Thank you for all your love and support through this journey!

Prayer:
1. For Vanessa’s health as Iritis is not giving up on her right eye.
2. Being declined for insurance coverage through regular insurance companies, pray that Samaritan Ministries will accept us in these next couple of weeks.
3. Pray that our house in NC will be sold in the next couple of months.

Support:
Thank you so much for your faithful financial and spiritual support. For the next few months we’ll be doing a little catching up as our regular income during Residency was low. Though everything we NEED God has provided through you. Thank you for your faithfulness!

On the Move

“Commit your actions to the LORD, and your plans will succeed.” Proverbs 16:3

Sometimes it’s hard to hold on to faith, especially in the “waiting”. I must say that we are so thankful for God’s amazing provision but most importantly His presence in our lives. There are definitely times in life when one can sit and reflect. If we were to reflect more often we’d see the miracles that God does not just around us but in us even in the “waiting”.

During this year of Residency I know He’s been molding us and giving us opportunities to grow personally, professionally and as a family. We are thankful for Community for their support and investment in us and HIs Mission. As we approach the end of our Residency we realize how blessed we are by opportunities like these. Opportunities to learn and make new friends/family. We are especially thankful for the Arellano Family, for their love and trust as friends.

We commit all our actions to Him! We commit our next steps to Him!

As many of you know we are heading to San Antonio! 1 out of the 3 cities we had been praying for. Gateway Fellowship Church invited us to join their church planting network and we are stoked about it. We have committed a minimum of 2 years to serve as Worship Executive Pastor, allowing us to prepare ground for planting in 2015. John Van Pay, Lead Pastor at Gateway, is in love with Christ, his family and His church, which creates a solid partnership. As we look back we are thankful that God guided us through the “waiting”, making us feel full confident that with Him we will succeed.

Thank you for your continuous prayers as we journey through. Here is little timeline of what’s going on in the next few days.

Today – December 29: packing up the house
Dec. 30 – Jan. 4: Loading up Truck
Jan. 4-6: Driving to our new home in San Antonio
Jan. 6: Arrive at our new home
Jan. 7-20: unload, settle in
Jan. 22: Lead worship/serve the Church

Why Plant a Bilingual Church…

A Bit of Heaven

Just recently we started reading more and more Bible stories to Aiyana, more because she seems more interested in these stories that trigger a lot of questions in her little but brilliant brain. A lot of questions to answers that some might take for granted, or for others cause them to really not believe in stories like, Jesus raising his friend Lazarus from the dark dark place (death) or like the one that Jesus flies up in the air with little angels in the background.

I’ve had some great conversations with my 3 year old. It’s just a bit hard to try and convince her that her kitties might not have little kitty angel wings and how we won’t have to eat, sleep or wash our clothes in heaven. Great questions, great conversations, great prep so when grown-ups ask me these types of questions. It reminds me: Through thick and thin, keep your hearts at attention, in adoration before Christ, your Master. Be ready to speak up and tell anyone who asks why you’re living the way you are, and always with the utmost courtesy.” I Peter 3:15

Hope you are holding strong in your faith and walk. Hope it’s not just a concept we believe but more of a love relationship to experience. A relationship we understand NOW, so when He comes to snatch us we’re not confused but ready to go where there are no ‘owwies’.

Thank you all for your love and support in this journey. He is blessing us with so many unforgettable experiences and friendships as we carry out the mission of helping people find their way back to God.

Residency at The Yellow Box
For the second half of our Residency we began working at The Yellow Box campus learning from leaders at a larger scale. It’s good to watch and learn from their perspective and experiences. We are still living in Aurora and speaking at that Campus once a month, maintaining our relationships with  people we love and keeping ties close with the Aurora community.

Remix: All Campuses – One Church – One Service
CCC will bring all campuses for the celebration experience of a lifetime. An awesome time to laugh, worship and be inspired with more than 7,000 people at one incredible outdoor venue. Community is celebrating all the things God has done in the past two years since we started IMPACT: stories of life change and blessing because of our generosity. So great to be part of this movement.

For Prayer:
- For our new friends who are far from God to be moved closer to Him as we invest in these relationships daily.
- For Aiyana as she begins Pre-school soon
- For Vanessa as she begins her Kindermusik Program as a connection to this community.

God wants us to succeed – but at his work, not ours.

“God wants us to succeed – but at his work, not ours.”  This statement I read from The Multiplying Church – Bob Roberts Jr. has caused me to pause and think. Challenged me to hear and think so big that I can’t wrap my dreams around it. THEN, they’ll know that God has everything to do with this.

Lately I’ve felt tired, confused, empty, weak. I feel scared. I am feeling the intensity / responsibility of working side by side with GOD. He is intense, he works with passion, he does what he needs to get things done. It feels a bit intimidating to me. It is hard to fathom his call for our family to do this. When really all it is, it’s an honor, it’s what we were made for.

I do ask for serious prayer for our lives. As family, as individuals, as our role in this mission. We want to do his work.

Last week I said  to Vanessa “I want to be part of changing what church looks like for Hispanic people in the United States.” Of course it’s not about “looks” – style, music, etc. It’s more about how there is a large pool of people who are far from God who need to be reached so they too can live alive in Christ. One by one changing lives, families, communities, cultures. I see more people who will be identified as Christ followers versus just hispanic or non-hispanic. It’s a beautiful dream.

When you are part of something big, you feel the pressure. I am feeling it. Pray, pray, pray for us!!!!!

I hope and pray too that God gives you vision, heart and passion to do His work. How is He pressing your heart? What is that one dream you had to let go, but keeps coming back? Will you join where God is moving?

Mountain Lion

I ‘spoke’ on Sunday. What a rush? I survived managing two languages at once. I had a chance to bring it at East Aurora yesterday. A message that really helped us remember where we come from and what God is doing. I spoke on how to manage adversity. How to scare the mountain lions that come making noises at your door?   If I might say, I am a semi-pro at this. Worse Case Scenario Survival Game says we should not run and make yourself appear bigger than what you are to scare a mountain lion off. I challenged people to change their perspective on how they look at adversity. “…..character produces hope”. For them to know that our hope is placed in a loving God who promises us unseen things and place no one has ever experienced. 10% is what happens to us and 90% how we react. Surround yourself with God’s promises. Memorize his Word, make yourself appear bigger with the armor of God on you and scare those lions away. If adversity is knocking at your door, you’ll know that God is already in your house. Look at adversity as an opportunity a chance for God’s glory to shine through you. Though you are included in the story, it really is His story.

We are so excited to be part of this journey, where God is leading us to places where many people will see Him for who he is. It is an exciting calling and opportunity to be here. Adversity hit us hard about 15 months ago: complication with pregnancy, loss of full time job 3 months after purchasing a new house. But now we see a glimpse of what He is doing. Thank you God for choosing to use us and for choosing to use certain situations to bring us HERE. Though I don’t have an “official job” God provides every step of the way.

Are you dealing with adversity these days? How can we be praying for you?

June Update

So much to say, so little space to share! I can not believe it’s June. Kids are out of school, people planning vacations. Hope you have are able to plan time away with your family and maybe stop by our way, we’d love to see you here – just to show off a little of what God is doing here.

Just this morning I was able to lead East Aurora, a bilingual campus in worship. Bilingual being something I am learning as I experience this in two languages simultaneously. My brain spins twice as fast, yet the experience in worship is amazing. People of different tongues and languages singing and lifting their hand together worshiping an all powerful God – amazing.

Highlight of the Month:  Being assessed as teacher/speaker presenting a bilingual message. It was quite the experience teaching a 25 minute sermon in 20 minutes in 2 languages. Apparently I swing too much and need to memorize the first and last page of the message. Though it was challenging, it was exciting. Overall, great feedback and advice for areas to develop. It was good stuff.  I look forward to teaching at East Aurora on June 26. Can’t wait.

Family: We celebrated Adi’s first birthday. She is amazing! She is so smart, she knew exactly what to do with her birthday and clap away during this joyous day. We thank God for her life and the amazing gifts God has given to us through our children. It is amazing how much they teach us. When we are the big ones, they are the ones that teach us the deep, meaningful lessons of life.

Please drop us a note let us know how you are doing! For people that do keep in touch, you guys make our day when you call us or send us an email. Love you all.

Prayer Request:
1. Location, location, location
2. To spiritually mature in our devotion to God as individuals and as family.
3. For friendships here to continue growing
4. For open doors through serving opportunities that we do around our community.

Road Trip: Our Journey to Texas

Is there an official rule of no cross country traveling with more than 1 child under 3 years old?  Well, now it’s broken. What an amazing week though! Who thought traveling cross country was exactly what we needed. Precious quality time. It took us 3 days to reach our destination: SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS

It’s been a great visit with various leaders/pastors/friends/family in the SA community. It has been a long trip, so long that Aiyana is asking us if we’ve moved again. Poor girl, there is lot’s going on!

This morning I read: “Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.” Luke 9:23-24

So what does it mean to take up our cross daily? Just yesterday we met Allyson, a mother of 3, completely committed in every way to help the under resourced families in inner-city San Antonio. She heard her call, was faithful and pursued this mission. Seeing her 2 girls and little boy play at Agora like it’s their home blew me away. I’m amazed on how her church, Gateway, commissioned, supported and empowered her to not only serve but help influence the whole church and partner with this mission. Every Tuesday they serve meals and spend time with people one on one hearing stories, praying and sharing Christ with them. Gateway has so far adopted 17 family who provide food for weeks at a time. They intentionally build relationships with these families who not only drop and run but who drop by and spend time together. Allyson gets phone calls from a new friend everyday asking her a bunch of hows. A friend who is a single mother living with her mother. 3 generations under one roof who were just trying to survive. Agora also provides mid-week Bible Studies. They take teens on camping field trips and visit places in their own city they would never ever get to see if Agora didn’t do this. THIS IS carrying your cross daily. Leaving your comfort (even entrusting your children to God), leaving your personal agenda and being with those who Jesus spent time with while He was here on earth. Allyson has challenged our family in many ways. We pray a blessing over her life, her call and her family.

So what does it mean to take up our cross daily?

Thank you for your love and prayers.

To San Antonio Texas

Today we begin our adventure towards the south. We’ll be making a memorable trip to San Antonio Texas. Packing up the girls and making it a family trip to remember.

For our journey, this will be a solidifying, intense listening time between our family and God. San Antonio has been on our radar to plant for the longest time. Now this is the time to explore and meet with leaders with the community. To romance the city and see if we fall in love with the city and it’s people.

I, Mario, grew up in Eagle Pass, 2.5 hours away from this city. My backyard, the place that I went shopping, enjoyed amusement parks, visited music stores and flew in and out of. So this tug is close to me. This tug to romance, to explore and to dream. During this trip we hope to meet with community leaders, Pastor friends to hear what God is doing in the city. We hope to serve along with leaders in the community to hear how the city’s health really is. We are thankful for Gateway Fellowship, who are opening their hearts to explore partnership and are completely open to the Holy Spirit’s guidance.

Pray for us! This week will be intense, fun and busy. Pray for our safety, health, children in car for a long time dynamic. Pray especially that our hearts may be broken by what breaks His. For our eyes to see Him for who He is and for our ears to listen to His voice.

We’ll keep you posted along our journey.

Here are some demographics for San Antionio. Tell us what you think and please pray over the city. San Antonio Demographics
